The world over, SCUBA training follows a 3 component curriculum: classroom theory, skill training and mastery in a safe setting (typically a pool), and finally evaluation of skills in an open water environment.
A typical class may follow the below schedule:
Theory:
The academic training is completed online at your convince. The structure for the online course is a multiple choice exam following each of the 15 chapters; and a final exam at the end. Instructor led training for a more traditional classroom setting is available by request.
Once the online course is completed, students and instructor(s) will come together and review any the material as well as discuss general SCUBA theory. Additionally students are introduced to the equipment and receive a dive computer for home practice. Scubbaccino believes dive computers are a vital element of dive safety, and provides free dive computers to all students.
Pool Practice:
Students learn and practice all of the basic skills necessary to dive in a safe setting. This includes:
- Mask Clearing Underwater
- Regulator Retrieval
- Swimming Underwater
- Basic Rescue Techniques
- Many More....
Ocean Diving:
A minimum of 4 ocean dives (over 2 days) are required to complete the course. Through these dives students demonstrate they have commanded the skills to safely dive without an instructor present. Typically this portion is taught with an overnight stay on Catalina Island.
Motivated divers can complete their certification in only 3 days!
